LVNMCF Seeks a Highly Qualified Professional to Hire as Executive Director

The Las Vegas NM Community Foundation (LVNMCF) is seeking a highly qualified professional to hire as its Executive Director. The Executive Director is the Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation responsible for administrative, financial and programmatic functions of the organization. The Executive Director serves at the discretion and direction of a volunteer board of directors. The Las Vegas NM Community Foundation office is located at 606 Douglas Avenue. The Executive Director position may be a contractual or employment agreement, negotiable upon hiring.

ABOUT THE LAS VEGAS NM COMMUNITY FOUNDATION (LVNMCF)

LNMCF is an emerging and growing northern New Mexico community foundation serving San Miguel and Mora Counties. It was founded ten years ago with a vision “to help greater Las Vegas thrive.” In its brief history, LVNMCF has developed community and emergency grants programs to benefit and support the nearly 50 nonprofit organizations in its service area. LVNMCF provided vital support grants to its nonprofit partners during the Covid pandemic of 2019 -2020 and the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon wildfire of 2022. During its first decade of growth, LVNMCF has steadily built a significant donor base, hired administrative staff and established its offices in the historic Gordons Jewelry building in downtown Las Vegas. Recently LVNMCF was granted a major Donor Advised Fund by the Anchorum Foundation of Santa Fe to promote Health and Wellness in San Miguel and Mora Counties. Currently LVNMCF manages about $2 million in assets.

STRATEGIC RESPONSIBILITIES

The Executive Director is the “face” of the Las Vegas NM Community Foundation, providing essential leadership for its service area nonprofit sector locally and statewide. The Executive Director will represent the organization in its relationships and collaborations with important community and regional institutions such as municipal governments, state and federal agencies, other community foundations, businesses, colleges and schools, financial institutions, media organizations, and residents. The Executive Director assists the board of directors in developing and administering its grants portfolio offering financial assistance to nonprofit organizations in the fields of Agriculture and Natural Conservation, Education, Community Development, Health and Wellness, Arts and Culture and Historic Preservation. In addition, the Executive Director provides strategic leadership for the foundation’s major program initiatives including Capacity Building, Health and Wellness, Affordable Housing and Long Term Recovery.

CORE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage LVNMCF staff including Anchorum fellows. Collaborate and support initiatives of other LVNMCF contractors including Special Projects manager.

  • Manage office functions including furniture, equipment, utilities, supplies, and building maintenance

  • Direct staff support for the board of directors, including clerical and logistical support for board meetings, committee meetings, agenda and report distribution & scheduling

  • Represent LVNMCF and board of directors at community events, conferences, regional and state meetings, federal agency consultations, and other organizational opportunities at the executive director's discretion and as directed by the board chair.

  • Attend all regular board meetings, special board meetings, executive committee meetings, relevant committee meetings and consultations as directed by the board chair.

  • Make presentations on LVNMCF history, projects, programs, grant opportunities and other topics as requested and directed by the board.

  • Manage and direct special events such as fundraising, awards ceremonies, holiday galas, board and employee recognition, and community capacity building workshops.

  • Manage LVNMCF's public relations and social media platforms including website, facebook, instagram, etc., and also newsletter production and distribution. Coordinate local, state and national publicity through press releases, interviews, photo ops, etc. manage LVNMCF's advertising campaign in the Las Vegas Optic newspaper.

  • Manage LVNMCF's donor and funder relations. Oversee the Little Green Light donor database and maintain grant reporting responsibilities as appropriate. Meet personally and virtually with donors and institutional donors as appropriate or assigned by the board.

  • Coordinate LVNMCF's financial portfolio in collaboration with board chair and treasurer, accounting service, finance and investment committees, banking institutions and investment firms.

  • Provide and coordinate grant writing support to the organization as needed and directed by the board, or as opportunities arise.

  • Provide technical assistance, staff support, and organizational support to the board for community, emergency and donor advised funds (DAF) cycles. Direct staff in preparation of grant agreements, check disbursement and reporting.

  • Provide technical assistance and staff support to the board for ongoing program initiatives including capacity building, affordable housing, long term recovery, and health and wellness as directed by the board.

  • Assist the board in board member and volunteer recruitment campaigns.

  • Advise the board on new and innovative programs, strategies, training opportunities,

    collaborations, personal and professional contacts that can further LVNMCF's mission.

  • Represent the organization in any governmental meetings or consultations as directed by the board or board chair.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

A bachelor’s degree in a related or complementary academic field to community development or philanthropy is the minimum requirement for this position. Fluency with computer and digital work tools is essential, such as competency with software platforms such as Microsoft or Apple systems. Word processing skills, spreadsheet development, personal email communication skills, knowledge of and familiarity with social media operations such as Facebook, Instagram, SquareSpace, etc. are essential. Presentation expertise with software programs like PowerPoint or Keynote or other variations is preferred.

The board of directors seeks a candidate with some nonprofit organizational management experience as well as demonstrated fundraising abilities. Supporting the board of directors with Agenda development, financial management and committee coordination is highly desirable.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

This is a full-time position with the expectation of office presence and community residency as mutually agreed upon with the board or board chair. The successful candidate will negotiate office hours, weekly work schedule, meeting attendance as necessary with the board of directors or board chair.

The base salary range for the LVNMCF Executive Director’s position is $55,000 per year. Salary increases and benefits package based on credentials, experience, agreed upon scope of work is subject to negotiation with the Board of directors.

The successful candidate will have a six-month and annual performance review with appropriate representatives of the board of directors.
